How much will it cost?

What Airport do I use?

Calgary International Airport (YYC). It takes about 1 hour 10 minutes to get to Canmore. Our optional Shuttle service is available to greet you at the arrival gate.

I am taking the Airport Shuttle. What if I miss my flight?

How can I sign up for the credits/activities included in my course? How can I sign up for weekend activities?

Before you arrive and each month, you will go on the internet, log in, and check the weekday and weekend activities you would like to join. Visit the BEC Activity Schedule at www.bec.ca to see the live calendar with upcoming and past activities.

Where are the Student Accommodations/Rentals? Is there a cheaper option?

BEC has set up this option to give students the cheapest possible option to stay in one of the nicest locations in Canada. Contact BEC for the locations and different options available.

What is included in the Homestay?

Homestay includes 1 private furnished room, 2 or 3 meals/day, use of laundry facilities, hot water/ shower/ bathroom, free local calls, Internet (If available).

What is the maximum number of students per class?

The maximum number of students in each class is 10. On Average the class sizes are 5 to 7 students per class.

What if I get sick?

As Canmore is a small Town, for most students, the Hospital would be a 5 or 10-minute drive away from the place you are staying. All students must have Emergency Health Insurance from BEC. This costs $2.50/day.

What Nationality are the students?

From 2010 to the date of writing this in 2011, the student nationalities were: Swiss (39.2%), Japanese (27.9%), French/French Canadian (17.9%), Korean (5.7%), Mexican (4.8%), and other (4.5%).

How long will it take me to get to school everyday?

It takes about 10 minutes (40 minute walk) to go almost anywhere in Canmore. It is a small Town. In the summer most student ride a bicycle to school.

Where is the School?

The school is in Canmore. Canmore is about a 20 minute drive from Banff and about 1 hour from Calgary. Canmore is a town in Alberta, Canada, located in the Bow Valley with a permanent population of 12,005. It is located just east of the world-famous Banff National Park.

What English levels do you have at BEC?

The BEC levels are aligned with the Canadian Language Benchmarks proficiency levels and adapted accordingly.

There are a maximum of 8 levels. Each individual level progressively covers more complex appropriate themes, structures and the functional language specific to real life situations. Levels may overlap or be combined as needed. The four skill areas listening, speaking, reading and writing are incorporated.

Level 1-4 range from very basic beginners with initial English language skills to learners with more fluent basic (high beginner) proficiencies. The focus is on developing listening, speaking, reading and writing in a succession of spiraling competencies that progress from explaining oneself and to providing the ability to engage in everyday transactions.

Level 5-6 range from low to high intermediate English language skills with themes, higher level structures and functions based on more community and global concerns.

Level 7-8 range from mid intermediate to advanced English language skills that review and explore issues such as cultural diversity, accessing and understanding more advanced information along with being able to fluently give and correctly give presentations and manage in more high level conversations in both informal and formal situations.
